Northern Thunder
An Alternative
Voice for the Chippewa Valley: WHYS Radio

Northern Thunder’s
license for construction of a new low-power FM radio station in Eau Claire has
been approved by the Federal Communications Commission! Our broadcast frequency,
96.3 FM, will cover the Eau Claire area. Call letters are set--"WHYS"!
We are interested in filling the airwaves with alternatives, including news and
discussion of environmental affairs, peace, social justice and diversity. And
we want to feature music and cultural segments rarely heard on local stations
– world beat, blues, local and regional musicians, patchwork, drumming,
themes, poetry, theater and maybe even comedy. We intend to put a local perspective
on all of this and create a real community radio station.
Most importantly, we want to involve the broader Eau Claire community in this
effort. There is a tremendous opportunity to shape and design community radio
for Eau Claire. We invite you to join us and help build a new voice.
